Competition Cheer squad qualifies for ICCA
Congratulations to the Alton Middle School Cheerleader Competition Team for qualifying for the Illinois Cheerleading Championships and placing 3rd in their division. They will be competing again next Sunday in Edwardsville for a higher title.

A reminder for Girls Volleyball tryouts this week, as follows:Mon/Tue, Dec. 8/9 -- 7th & 8th grade tryouts in the Annex gym from 3:30-5:00pmWed/Thu, Dec, 10/11 -- 6th grade tryouts in the Annex gym from 3:30-5:00pmAlso, there will be a Bowling informational meeting on Thu, Dec. 11 during Advisory in the Annex cafeteria. Students will go to Advisory for attendance & the released at 2:50pm to go to the meeting.In order to try out, a current physical must be on-file with the building nurse. Athletic registration forms are available on the Healthy Roster app (see attached letter). Both documents must be signed by both the athlete & a parent/guardian. These are good for the school year, so if completed for a previous sport, you're good. Due to the heat, today's MS football games will push back start times 1 hour & follow this schedule:4:30 -- Gates open; 7th grade team warm-up (no helmets/shoulder pads)4:50 -- teams leave the field for water & dress; captains meeting5:00 -- kick-off game played with 6-min quarters & 5-min cooling break at 3:00 mark of each quarterno overtime6:45 -- 8th grade teams will have 15-min on-field warm-up (players can stretch behind end zones as 7th grade game is finishing). Girls' Basketball Tryouts
This is a reminder that Girls' Basketball tryouts begin next Mon, Sept. 15 in the College gym from 3:30-5:15pm for any 6th, 7th & 8th grade girls. AMS supports 8th grade & 7th grade teams that compete in the Metro East Athletic Conference and a 6th grade team that plays in a league at Trimpe MS (Bethalto).Those interested in participating should contact AMS Athletic Director Scott Harper by email (sharper@altonschools.org) to receive an Admit Card identifying tryout requirements are met. The Fall sports seasons are underway, so let’s make Alton MS events a safe and enjoyable time for everyone. Please read the following information and help in spreading the word to your students and parents:Athletic Event – Attendance PolicyThe District requires that all patrons entering sporting events comply with the following:No outside food/beverages or coolers (when concessions are sold)No backpacks, large purses or gym bags brought in by studentsAll bags/purses are subject to search/scan via the Open Gate system (when in use)Standing in the mezzanine/lobbies/walkways will not be permitted unless in line for concessions or restrooms.No noise makers, balls, projectiles, skateboards, etc. allowedNo re-entry will be permitted MS & Elementary students: Must be accompanied by an adult/chaperone & remain with that person throughout the game—they cannot be left unsupervised.HS students: Must have your student ID to receive the student rate.
